Search Help
The search facility on this site has been designed to work similar to many common search engines. In our search facility search words are not case sensitive. Matches will be found by looking for the search words in the page title, keywords, description and body text.
The way search engines work often cause confusion. As an example a user decides to search this site for "guides". When the results appear they are not what the user is looking for, so the user decides to prefix with the word "mountain" expecting to narrow the search. To their dismay the result is no more focussed than the first one!
It is important to realise when a search term uses two or more words, the search engine will look for all pages containing any ONE of them and also pages containing them both. Better search results are usually obtained by modifying the way the terms are entered using one of the permitted modifiers shown below.
You can search for pages which contain a specific word by prefixing it with a plus (+) sign. Only pages which contain that word will be shown.
You can ignore all pages which contain a specific word by prefixing it with a minus (-) sign. Any page that contains that word will not be displayed in the search results.
You can search for a specific phrase by enclosing it in double quotes ("). Only pages that contain that exact phrase will be shown.
| Search String | Results will contain pages that: |
|---|---|
| mountain guides | contain either the word mountain or the word guides (or both) |
| "mountain guides" | contain the exact phrase mountain guides |
| + mountain + guides | contain both the word mountain and the word guides |
| mountain + guides | contain the word guides. If the page also contains the word mountain it may rank higher in the results list. |
| + mountain - guides | contain the word mountain and not the word guides |
